Description
A named pearlware brewer's jug, painted with the inscription 'James Rimmer' above barley stooks and a four line stanza extolling the virtues of the brewing industry, a barrel blazoned 'Old October' spilling out 'The Blood of Sir John', early 19th century, some good restoration to the spout, 21cm.
The reference to The Blood of Sir John relates to the 17th century ballad 'The Murder of John Barleycorn', warning about using too much water in the brewing of good beer.
