Description
A brass six branch candelabrum, comprising twenty four parts, 19in high.
Provenance: Siegfied Sassoon and thence by descent to the present owner
In Sassoon's Collected Poems 1908-1956 (Faber and Faber, enlarged edition 1961) there is a poem entitled Cleaning the Candelabrum which begins:
'While cleaning my old six-branched candelabrum
(Which disconnects in four and twenty parts)
I think how other hands its brass have brightened
And wonder what was happening in their hearts …'
