Description

A Crimean War pair of medals, to Captain Sir Francis Houlton Hartwell, Crimea Medal, 1854 (engraved caps, Lieut H Hartwell, 17th Foot); Turkish Crimea Medal, Sardinian issue, un-named, brooch mounted, with buckles, ribbons seriously distressed, fine; together with his (reputed) silver 'Campaign' beaker, with his engraved initials, FHH, Italian silver marks, this somewhat knocked about. (3) Sir Francis Houlton Hartwell, 3rd Bt. (1835-1900), son of Sir Broderick Hartwell, 2nd Bt. and Alicia Gunthorpe. He married Emma Jane Dymoke (1861) by whom he had three daughters. He was Justice of the Peace (Somerset). He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Hartwell, of Dale Hall, Essex on 11 December 1888 and was the uncle of Sir Brodrick Cecil Denham Arkwright Hartwell, whose medals are offered in the following lot.
