Description

A small Chinese celadon jade carving of a recumbent horse, probably Ming dynasty. With its head turned to the right looking over its back, the stone with pale brown striations, 7cm. Provenance: an English private collection, purchased at Christie's c.1999. The horse 'Ma', is a symbol of speed and of peace, because in ancient China they were used to bring peaceful tidings.
