Description

A George III silver-gilt horse racing trophy cup and cover, by Matthew Boulton, Birmingham 1820, the finial, by William Eley, London, campana form, heavily embossed with foliate decoration, and applied with a trailing grape-vine girdle, Bacchus mask mounted fluted side handles, on a raised circular foot, with a laurel leaf border, the domed fluted cover with a horse finial, height 40.5cm, approx. weight 120oz. provenance: Purchased Sotheby's Sporting Sale, November 2002.
