Description

Emil Wolff (1802-1879) German. Bust of Prince Albert wearing Grecian armour decorated St George and the Dragon, marble, signed 'E Wolff Romae Fecit', on a turned socle, 29.5in (75cm) h. Provenance: This lot belongs to the Royal Patriotic Fund Corporation and is being sold to benefit the charity. The fund was set up in 1854 as a result of an appeal for money to help widows and orphans of all ranks of the Navy, Arm and Royal Marines who lost their lives in the Crimean war. Its first President was Prince Albert, the Prince Consort who presided until his death in 1861, it is possible that this bust was gifted to the charity by Prince Albert himself.
