Description

A George III diamond brooch. Of circular form and set with a cushion shaped diamond within a border of smaller diamonds in silver and gold. Detachable brooch mount. 2.5cm wide. Provenance: The owner's grandfather, Lt Col John Grenville Fortescue married Daphne Bourke in 1917. Her grandfather was the 6th Earl of Mayo and Viceroy of India from 1869 until his assassination in 1872. Family tradition holds that the brooch came from India and possibly from the Viceroy.
