Description
An Elizabeth I communion cup and paten cover, with a knopped pedestal foot, the whole decorated with encircling bands or straps of engraved trailing foliage, the cover with a reeded rim and a spool finial scratched '1574', makers mark IP in a shaped shield*, London, 1572/73, 7.7in (19.5cm) high, 7.75oz. * See Jacksons Revised pp. 95, for drawing of this mark as seen on many communion cups between 1563-79.
