Description
Castellani. A fine archeological revival gold framed carved hardstone cameo brooch, circa 1860. The circular frame with fine wirework decoration and applied with signature plaque to the reverse with inverted C's. The green stone cameo carved in fine relief with the profiles of the heads of two classical male and female figure, the female possibly Hera. The cameo initialled bottom left with reverse entwined C's denoting that it was expressly commissioned from the gem carver by Castellani and is consequently contemporary to the piece. The cameo 3cm wide and the frame 4.5cm wide.
