Description
A Chinese porcelain abstinence plaque late 19th century, each side decorated with two characters, one side marked zhai jie in kaishu script, the other with the Manchu characters bolgomi karga, within stylized flowers, small chips, 5.1cm.
The characters on both sides mean 'to fast'. These plaques were worn by court ladies during periods of fasting or at other times to indicate abstinence to their husbands.
