Description
A Victorian large brass bound Maccassa ebony toilet box, with a lift up cover and a fall front revealing two sets of swing-out trays (the lower trays with concealed drawers), fitted with the following cut glass silvergilt mounted items: four toilet water bottles, a cylindrical jar, four small circular pots, two narrow oblong boxes, three other boxes and an oblong powder box with sprung cover; the interior with a tortoiseshell dressing table set comprising: two hair brushes, two clothes brushes, a pair of glove stretchers, a shoe horn, a hand mirror and two dental mirrors; the tortoiseshell items with a large applied gold cypher, the cover similarly applied with a silvergilt cypher and the mounts engraved with the same, the mounts by Messers Betjemann, Betjemann and Betjemann, London, 1881-1885, the fall front with an inset gilt metal plaque inscribed 'R and S Garrard & Co., 25 Haymarket, and 29 to 32 Panton Street', the box measuring 9.75in (24.6cm) x 14.5in (37cm) x 11.6in (29.5cm).
