Description

A large Chinese polished bronze hexagonal censer 18th or 19th century, cast with panels of running animals and with dragon handles, the wood cover carved with diaper designs and with a bronze lion dog finial, the stand carved with bamboo, prunus and chrysanthemum, damages, one handle reglued, 39.5cm across. (3) Provenance: by repute, rescued from the Old Summer Palace in 1900 and gifted to the vendor's family for services during the Boxer Rebellion, and thence by descent.
