Description

A Chinese pale celadon hardstone ruyi sceptre 19th century, the head carved with Immortals in a boat and on a rocky outcrop beneath pine while another rides a phoenix, the central section and terminal carved with further figures and landscapes, raised on an elaborate wood stand, and hung with a pair of orange silk tassels, 44cm. Provenance: formerly the property of Dr Little, surgeon and physician in Shanghai from 1869-1901. Admiral Sir Charles Little and thence by descent.
