Description

A very large and imposing pair of Chinese famille verte yen yen vases each with a six character Kangxi mark but probably later, elaborately decorated with flowering prunus trees in which colourful long-tailed birds are perched, the lower sections with rockwork and foliage, all on a green ground, a faint rim crack to one, 77.5cm. (2) Cf. M Pinto de Matos, Chinese Porcelain in the Calouste Gulbenkian Collection, pp.142-145 for a related but smaller example, dated as 'probably Kangxi period'. Other examples of similar green ground vases of this size are in, amongst others, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and The Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
