Description

An armorial wine glass of anti-Jacobite relevance 18th century, engraved with a crest of an arm embowed and brandishing a scimitar above a shield with crowned thistles and chevrons, and a banner with the motto 'Pro Rege Et Patria', the arms for the Earl of Leven quartering Melville, raised on an airtwist stem, 16.5cm.

The 1st Earl of Melville and his son, the 1st Earl of Leven, were accused of conspiracy in the Rye House Plot - a Whig conspiracy to assassinate Charles II and the Duke of York (the future James VII).
