Description

A very fine Chinese white jade incense burner and cover Qianlong 1736-95, carved in relief in archaistic style with stylized taotie, the knop as a twin horned reticulated dragon amidst flowers, the handles as the heads of mythical beasts, all raised on a flared foot, the stone an even tone,18.2cm. (2)

Provenance: an English private collection, purchased from J Sparks Ltd in the 1920s.

A comparable incense burner and cover but with three feet was sold in these rooms, 23rd May 2012, lot 73.
