Description

A rare Chinese gilt bronze figure of Vajrasattva 15th century, seated in a lotus position, wearing an elaborate headdress upon a high chignon and adorned with jewellery and ribbons, holding a silver vajra in one hand and a bell in the other, raised on a high double lotus base, 13.6cm.

Cf. The Complete Collection of Treasures in The Palace Museum, Buddhist Statues of Tibet, p.175 for a similar figure in gilt copper also dated to the 15th century.
