Description

A large and imposing Chinese hardwood six-poster canopy bed probably 2nd half 19th century, the rectangular frame with a woven mat seat supported by sturdy scroll legs with a shaped apron carved in relief with lingzhi and chilongs. The back and side railing panels, probably in zitan, carved with stylized dragons, bats and other auspicious things, the upper canopy set with matching reticulated panels, 231cm x 215cm x 150cm.

Provenance: purchased in China in 1960 or '61 by an Asian diplomat in Beijing.
