Description

A pair of Chinese small jadeite water pots 19th century, each with a compressed circular body carved in relief, one with a cover and two birds of paradise amidst plum blossoms, the other with a butterfly, each with a reticulated hardwood stand, 5.7cm. (5)

Provenance: Allan Gibson Hughes (1889-1938), of Chalfont, The Mount, Shrewsbury.

The bird of paradise and the plum blossom seen together represent longevity and marital fidelity.
