Description

A Chinese famille rose dish 18th century, painted with the 'cherry pickers' scene, depicting European figures and a small dog beneath a fruiting cherry tree, the rim with a gilt rope twist band, 23.4cm.

Cf. Hervou‡t and Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, p.89, fig.4.23, where the authors inform us that this scene was inspired by an engraving by Nicolas Ponce, after a painting by Antoine Baudouin.
