Description

A George III Scottish silver two-handled archery cup,

by William Robertson, Edinburgh 1793,

plain urn form, scroll handles, on a raised circular foot, engraved with an armorial, height 27cm, approx. weight 23oz.

The cup is engraved with the Royal Arms in their 1714-1801 English form. Below are the crossed arrows below a Royal Crown and the crest and motto of the the Order of the Thistle and other Scottish national insignia.

The cup was awarded to A. Wallace, C.R.A on the 21 July 1794, for winning the Sovereign's Prize for the annual competition among the Royal Company of Archers who are the Sovereign's bodyguard in Scotland.

Provenance: The Old Rectory, Little Langford, Wiltshire. Sold by order of Trustees of the Estate of the late Miss S.F. Rooke.
