Description

Charles II, The Restoration, "INVIDIA MAIOR", silver medal, 1660, by George Bower, laureate and draped armoured bust right, rev., Britannia as Pallas pierces the prone figure of Envy with her spear, 35mm (MI 459/52; Eim 216; vL II, 461). Good extremely fine with light tone, extremely rare.
MI speculates that the medal alludes to the pardon granted by the king to many supporters of the Commonwealth. From an old Dutch collection and contained in a pierced card holder.
