Domenico Brucciani (1815-1880). A Victorian life size plaster cast of the Venus de Milo by D. Brucciani & Co. London, the base marked 'D. BRUCCIANI & CO, LONDON', 212.5cm high, 63.2cm wide, 49.5cm deep.
Domenico Brucciani was born near Lucca, Italy and came to England with his father establishing a gallery of casts in Covent Garden by 1837. He worked for the South Kensington Museum, the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum, taking casts of items in their collections and of monuments elsewhere.
