Description

A Russian gold coin mounted brooch by Fabergé, workmaster Oskar Pihl. The Catherine II five rouble 1773 gold coin has pink guilloche enamel decoration to the obverse and is mounted in gold with a rose cut diamond border and five cabochon emeralds. Marks - on the pin hook 56 and rubbed OP. On the pin, two obscure marks possibly Moscow and OP. 2.8cm wide. With fitted wooded box, the silk lining stamped K. Fabergé in Cyrillic beneath the Imperial eagle.

Referred to in Bainbridge, Peter Carl Fabergé, page 56 when the brooch was in the possession of Mrs John Piper and Mrs Constance Sturrock.

Exhibited Wartski, 138 Regent Street, London. November 8th - 25th 1949. Exhibit number 152, as lent by Mrs J. Piper. A gold five rouble piece. Enamelled a flame colour, set with five cabochon emeralds and rose diamonds mounted as a brooch. With an invitation to Mrs Sturrock to the Wartski exhibition. And an exhibition announcement card. And correspondence from Wartski to Mrs Piper. The original catalogue and documents to be included with this lot.
