Description

A good Chinese small pale celadon jade boulder carving probably Rebublic period, depicting a single figure playing a qin, seated in a cave with an incense burner to one side, a pine tree clinging to the rocks to his right and water flowing beneath, the reverse inscribed with a poem which reads yu ti liu shui gao shan yi qu qin, zi qi qian gu shi zhi yin (the story of the qin player Bo Ya), the stone with areas of brown skin, together with a hardwood stand, 7.2cm. (2)
Provenance: previously in the collection of Thomas Tolley, Worcestershire, believed to have been acquired in the late 1940s.
