Description

A Chinese porcelain Dutch-decorated teapot and cover 1st half 18th century, the pear-shaped body applied with trailing stems of flowering lotus issuing from the spout and handle, later-decorated in Holland with high-handled baskets of flowers in the Dutch doré manner, around the spout and handle with a fisherman beside buildings, the applied trails richly gilded, 15cm. (2)

Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, no. 703. Purchased from Geoffrey Waters, November 1998.

This type of pear-shaped teapot became very popular at the Meissen factory during the 1720s and '30s.
