Description

A TIBETAN BRONZE PHURBER DAGGER

17TH/18TH CENTURY

The central vajra surmounted by three crowned heads and a horse-head finial, the blade divided into three sections, 35cm.

This ritual dagger has its origins as an ancient Vedic tool, used to tether sacrificial animals. It was used to create stability, and to delineate areas of ritual space.
