λ TWO JAPANESE IVORY NETSUKE

MEIJI 1868-1912

Both depicting fruiting branches, the smallest of loquat signed Mitsuhiro with kakihan, the other of persimmon with an insect and fly, the fruit with a small horn inlay, unsigned, 6.8cm. (2)

Cf. F Meinerzhagen, The Meinerzhagen Card Index on Netsuke in the Archives of the British Museum, Part A, pp.534-546, which are dedicated to the works of Ohara Mitsuhiro (1810-1875) and where it is noted the particular kakihan used on this netsuke occurs 'on some of the finest work'.
