Description
A large creamware jug of American interest c.1804, printed and hand-coloured to one side with a Continental soldier standing beneath the American flag with ships in the background, titled 'Success to America whose Militia is better than Standing Armies, May Its Citizens Emulate Soldiers and its Soldiers Heroes', a further two line stanza beneath, to the reverse a three-masted ship, beneath the spout the American Eagle surrounded by a quote from Thomas Jefferson's inaugural speech of 1801, some restoration, 22.7cm high.
