Description

A large Richard Chaffers (Liverpool) mug c.1762-65, the tall cylindrical form printed in black with The Tythe Pig, a young couple offering the village clergyman a piglet and a baby before a farmstead, above a sixteen line verse telling the story behind the picture, a long crack, 16.5cm.

The engraving derives from a print by Müller after Boitard and also appears on Worcester and Longton Hall, as well as Liverpool delftware tiles and Wedgwood creamware.
