Description

A 19th century walnut and micromosaic occasional table in the manner of Gillows, the rectangular ebony top inset with an Italian micromosaic panel of convolvulus (bindweed) with pink and blue flowers and two butterflies, with a red marble border and oval malachite panels, the moulded gilt brass edge on a leaf carved stem, scroll legs and oval pad feet, 75.2cm high, 61.5cm wide, 48.5cm deep, the micromosaic panel 35 x 48.3cm.

In the Turkish Secret language of Flowers, blue convolvulus means 'repose' or 'night' and pink convolvulus symbolises 'Worth sustained by judicious affection'.
