Description

A Victorian Gothic revival oak writing desk after a design by A. W. N. Pugin, the top with a moulded edge and a raised back, above a pair of frieze drawers fitted with brass loop handles, on chamfered trestle ends carved with rosette rondels, above conforming feet, united by an arched stretcher, on castors, 80.8cm high, 108.1cm wide, 63.6cm deep.
From 1847 until his death in 1852 Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin provided designs for the new Palace of Westminster which were carried out by Gillows and Holland & Sons. See Michael Whiteway, A. W.
