Description

A Diamond-set Badge of the Turkish Order of Glory or Nishan el Iftihair, the central medallion in gold with Toughra of Mahmud II, the whole surrounded by a diamond set circular border with an elaborate floral spray below and ribbon above, with original diamond set suspension loop, officially marked gold back-plate with 6 rivets, circa 1840. In original condition and extremely rare. The Order was awarded, in a single class only, for services to the Ottoman Empire, and was founded by Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839; AH 1223-1255) in 1831. It became obsolete on the introduction of the Order of the Medjidjie in 1851.
