λ A RARE CHINESE CANTON IVORY BRISE COCKADE FAN AND WALL CASE

18TH CENTURY

Carved with a continuous design of delicately pierced foliate scrolls, with vases of flowers and squirrels climbing upon fruiting vines, and with seven oval cartouches each containing figures amongst pagoda landscapes, one with the monogram 'J L', contained within a rectangular ivory wall case pierced for suspension, similarly monogrammed and carved in shallow relief with figures engaged in daily pursuits amongst pagodas, leafy trees and small boats, the guardsticks 38cm long.
