A MASSIVE PAIR OF CHINESE POLYCHROME VASES
LATE QING DYNASTY
Painted in mirror image with continuous scenes depicting a band of musicians entertaining a seated official on a terrace, with plantain and maple in a fenced rocky garden beyond, bordered by bands of key fret and scroll designs, the shoulder with panels containing auspicious objects and ribbons on a cell diaper ground, 79.5cm. (2)
Provenance: formerly in the collection of Dr Barros, acquired in Paris c.1946-47, by repute. Dr Barros was a medical doctor and well-known antique dealer.
