Description

A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE RECTANGULAR TRAY
SIX CHARACTER JIAQING MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1796-1820
Painted with a solitary fisherman overlooking a lake in an extensive mountainous landscape, with three fishing boats and small houses amongst pine trees, all bordered by fruiting branches, the exterior with river scenes, 35.3cm x 18.6cm.
Provenance: formerly from the collection of Carl-Erik Gadelius (1866-1928), who was head of the Gadelius Company, Japan, 1904-1913.
Cf. Marchant, Nineteenth Century Mark and Period Porcelain, 1991, p.15 & 18, where two related trays with Jiaqing marks are illustrated, and where it is noted these items are derived from Tianqi ko-sometsuke tea ceremony wares.
