A PAIR OF JAPANESE SATSUMA VASES

MEIJI 1868-1912

Decorated with a continuous scene of firemen celebrating the New Year, some performing the hashigo nori (ladder climbing), others carrying the matoi (standards) of their brigades, one vase with a hinomi yagura (lookout tower) in the background, the foot and shoulder decorated with petal-shaped panels of brocades, signed Satsuma Nikko to the base under the Shimazu mon, 19.5cm.
