Description

A Louis XV beadwork altar frontal, embroidered on an ivory satin ground with tubular beads in white and yellow with seed pearls and brilliants, the centre with the monogram of Mademoiselle Louise, the daughter to Louis XV, surmounted by a coronet and flanked by floral sprays, in a later glazed and gilt frame, 158.8 x 97.3cm.

Provenance: By repute this panel was worked by the Ladies in Waiting of Mademoiselle Louise, who took it to the Carmel of St. Denis in 1769. When the Convent was disbanded during the French Revolution one of the nuns, Sister Mary Charlotte, brought it to England.
