Two 19th century watercolour topographical costume studies, each titled and inscribed 'Admiral Hollis' with 'A Fisherman of Venice & his Son' and 'Native of the Island of Lefsa in the Adriatic carrying Water to the English Camp', later mounted, 26 x 21.2cm. (2)
Vice-Admiral Aiskew Paffard Hollis c.1764-1844 was a Royal Navy officer of the early 19th century who is best known for his service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. in 1811, he was transferred to HMS Achille in which he served with the Mediterranean Fleet, especially in the Adriatic Sea.
