Description

A George III Irish silver two-handled cup and associated cover,

the marks on the body partially lost in the decoration, the cover by Michael Homer, Dublin 1789,

urn form, bright-cut decoration, scroll handles, engraved with an armorial and motto with foliate mantling, on a raised circular foot, reeded border, the pull-off cover with an urn finial, height 40cm, approx. weight 46.5oz.

The crest, coronet and motto for the Earl of Rosslyn. Alexander Wedderburn (1733-1805), a lawyer and MP who became Lord Chief Justice and later Lord Chancellor, was created Earl of Rosslyn in 1801.
