This drawing originates from a sketchbook which Varley used on his 1802 tour to North Wales with his brother John and the architect Thomas Webster. The album was still intact at the time of Colnaghi's 1973 exhibition and eleven of the sheets (but not the present one) are watermarked E & P 1796
