A Tsonga / Zulu staff
Mozambique / South Africa
carved a female figure finial with a cone shape coiffure and with her hands placed at the base of her slightly swollen abdomen, and wearing a short skirt, on a shaft, with blackened highlights,
112.5cm long.
The cone like coiffure was a traditional Zulu form in the 19th century for married Zulu women and the slightly swollen abdomen suggests the early stages of pregnancy.
