A Matumbi drum
Tanzania
carved wood, with a tall cylindrical body, raised on a circular base with four short supports, a pair of pierced lug handles with a pegged hide skin, 2nd half 19th century,
94cm high,
and a Ugandan drum, wood, with a hide skin, strung to a hide covered base, 2nd half 19th century, 48cm high. (2)

Collected by Lieutenant Charles Stewart Smith, RN., whilst acting as British Consulate in Zanzibar in the 1880's.
