A Kerewa skull rack, agiba

Papua New Guinea

wood, with carved and pigment decoration, with a Cassowary skull with a woven fibre backing,

46.5cm high, on a stand. (3)

cf. Douglas Newton. Art Style of the Papun Gulf, 1961, pages 46 and 57 for small agiba hung with birds, animals and reptiles. Agiba were hung in the men's houses and each clan had their own.
