Four medals to Private William Mantle, Royal Fusiliers: Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 2nd type reverse, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1902 (8133 PTE. W. MANTLE. RL: FUS: M.I.), officially impressed; 1914 Star (8133 L. CPL W. MANTLE. 4/R.FUS.), British War and Victory Medals (L-8133 PTE. R. FUS.), unmounted, BWM nearly extremely fine, others extremely fine; Memorial Plaque (WILLIAM MANTLE); with Princess Mary gift tin, five .303 drill rounds in charger, and a framed photograph purported to be of the recipient in civilian attire.

The recipient was killed in action 27th October 1914, probably at 1st Ypres or La Bassée, aged 30 years (thus he would only have been in his mid-teens when he served in South Africa). He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. (CWGC).
