Description

A Victorian cast silver armorial badge,

by E and J Barnard, London 1859,

crowned oval form, foliate border the centre with an armorial, on a matted background, length 12.8cm, approx. weight 2.5oz.

Provenance: Selected Silver and Plate, Christie's South Kensington,10th June 2003, lot 111.

The arms of Denison quartering Conyngham. Albert Denison Conyngham, (1805-1883) sometime diplomat and Liberal MP, changed his name to Denison on succession to his uncle's great estate. He was created Baron Londesborough in 1850 and held the post of Vice-Admiral of the Yorkshire Coast and President of the Archaeological Society. His son was elevated to an earldom in 1887, the title becoming extinct in 1937.
