A FINE SMALL CHINESE WHITE JADE SHUANG LIAN BOX AND COVER

18TH CENTURY

With two conjoined ovoid compartments, the cover mirroring this design, carved in shallow relief with a pair of interlocking circular rings, each containing a bat in flight, the stone an even tone with russet mottling to the cover, 5.5cm. (2)

Provenance: Lt. Col. Edmund Whitehead (1870-1945), an interpreter for the British Army who served in Beijing c.1890, and thence by descent.
