A LARGE PAIR OF CHINESE SANCAI GLAZED EARTH SPIRITS

TANG DYNASTY 618-907 AD

One with a human face, seated with his front legs extended and resting on his haunches, the other as a mythical beast baring its fangs and with curved horns also resting on its haunches and with cloven feet, both figures have long spiked wings and weapon-like blades rising from their heads, each is raised on a high pierced base, and decorated with mottled amber, green and cream-coloured glazes, 81cm. (2)
