Description
An English delftware punchbowl c.1760, the exterior painted with stylized fruiting branches in the Chinese manner, the interior inscribed 'ONE MORE AND THEN' within similar decoration, rim crack, 26.7cm.
The inscription is an abbreviated version of the full 'One bowl of punch more, and then we part'; punch-drinking being a highly sociable activity during the 18th century.
