Description

A set of mahogany and satinwood hanging wall shelves, with three stepped tiers and pierced fretwork ends and divisions, fitted with three drawers inlaid with marquetry decoration of scrolling leaves and flowers, centred with a pair of griffins flanking an urn, 19th century, 77.8cm high, 86.7cm wide, 17cm deep.
The design for the marquetry is taken from the Temple of Antonius and Faustina, Rome, and was engraved for a 'Frieze or Tablet' in Thomas Sheraton's 'The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book', 1793, pl. 56.
